A dental veneer is an ultra-thin shell of ceramic (porcelain) or a composite resin material. It is one of the best cosmetic dentistry procedures. A veneer is bonded to the front of a tooth. This procedure requires little or no anesthesia.
Veneers are an excellent alternative to crowns in many situations. They provide a much more conservative approach to changing a tooth's color, size or shape.
Who should consider veneers?
Veneers provide an alternative to traditional crowns. They are useful in the following situations:
- To mask tooth discoloration such as teeth stained by tetracycline or damaged due to an injury or root-canal procedure. It is a more permanent alternative to teeth whitening.
- To mask discolored fillings.
- To close gaps between teeth.
- To repair teeth that are chipped or worn.
